Dr. Pedro Gutierrez has been appointed Chair of the American Heart Association’s Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Committee for the southern region.

Gutierrez, the program director, associate dean and founding chair of HWCOM’s Master in Physician Assistant Studies program, will oversee more than 100 training centers in the Alabama/Florida region, coordinate all regional events and activities, and supervise all the regional faculty in BLS (Basic Life Support) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), for the next two years.

Gutierrez has been a regional faculty with the American Heart Association in all three disciplines for more than 20 years, and a member of the ECC committee for the past three years.
