Juan Manuel Lozano Leon, MD, professor in the Department of Translational Medicine, will assume the additional responsibilities of Chief of the Division of Medical and Population Health Sciences Education and Research.  In this role, he will oversee and lead all curricular and research activities of the Division.

Since joining FIU in 2009, Dr. Lozano has focused on providing leadership and guidance to HWCOM students on curricular and non-curricular research.  He has collaborated with basic scientists, clinicians and educators in contributing to the research database and in mentoring students in basic/clinical/translational/educational and health outcomes research.  With his department faculty, Dr. Lozano works with Clinical Chairs, as well as the Executive Associate Deans of Research and Academic Affairs in developing research collaborations. 

Dr. Lozano Leon received his MD and completed his residency training in pediatrics at Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia. He later obtained a Masters of Science (clinical epidemiology) at McMaster University, in Ontario, Canada, one of the world’s leading centers in clinical epidemiology and evidence based practice.

Prior to joining HWCOM, Dr. Lozano Leon served as Medical Officer for Research at the World Health Organization Acute Respiratory Infections Control Programme in Geneva, Switzerland, and Director of the National Program of Science and Technology in Health at Colciencias, the governmental institution responsible for managing all public research funds in Colombia.
