HWCOM announces interim appointments

Adrian Jones has been named Interim Executive Associate Dean for Student Affairs. Jones has served as HWCOM Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and he holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Humanities, Health, and Society.

Prior to coming to FIU in 2014, he worked as the Assistant Dean for Admissions and Recruitment at Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine for seven years.

He also served as the Assistant Dean for Students, Diversity, and Community Relations at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, and served as the Director of Multicultural Affairs and Director of Medical School Admissions and Recruitment at the State University New York (SUNY) at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

A recognized leader in student affairs, Jones has held positions as the admissions representative to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Central Group on Student Affairs (CGSA), the AAMC National Committee on Admissions, and the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) School Tools Implementation Advisory Committee.

Dean Jones earned his B.S in Psychology at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, and his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.

Alexander Agoulnik has been named Interim Chair of the Department of Human and Molecular Genetics. Agoulnik serves as professor and has served as vice chair of the Department of Human and Molecular Genetics. He is a Founding Director of the PhD Program in Biomedical Sciences at HWCOM.

Agoulnik received his Ph.D. from the Russian Academy of Science at the Institute of Cytology and Genetics in Novosibirsk, Russia.  Before joining FIU, he was a faculty member at the University of Tennessee, Memphis and  Baylor College of Medicine.

Agoulnik’s laboratory is supported by grants from the NIH, research foundations, and industry.  He has published more than 120 research papers and book chapters.
