Samantha Lemus-Martinez appointed Director of Teaching and Learning

Samantha Lemus-Martinez has been named Director of Teaching and Learning for the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM).

Lemus-Martinez joined HWCOM in 2018 as assistant director of faculty development. She later served as director of pre-clerkship faculty development in the Office of Medical Education and as an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health.
She will continue to oversee the Academic Medicine Pipeline Program (AMP2), the Teaching Skills Elective, and serve as co-director of the OSLER Friday course.

Over the last year, Lemus-Martinez served as interim director of the Student Academic Success Program and our academic learning specialist. Through her new role, she hopes to continue nurturing students’ love for learning and assist faculty in developing their teaching skills through innovative and research-based practices.

Lemus-Martinez has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and holds a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling, and an Education Specialist degree in Reading.
