HWCOM names new chair of Humanities, Health, and Society

Frank William Joseph Anderson, M.D., M.P.H., FACOG

After an extensive national search, Dr. Frank William Joseph Anderson has been named the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine Department of Humanities, Health, and Society chair.

Dr. Anderson comes to FIU from the University of Michigan. At UMich,  he served as a professor of obstetrics & gynecology. He held a joint appointment at the School of Public Health, where he taught an annual and highly popular course, the “Fundamentals of Reproductive Health.”

Anderson is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist and a specialist in global health. During his career, Anderson has significantly contributed to reducing maternal mortality in both the U.S. and Africa.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN, and his M.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology. He then obtained an MPH at Johns Hopkins University, with a particular focus on maternal mortality.
