Dr. Fred Anderson wins national teaching award

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Board of Directors has selected Dr. Fred Anderson as recipient of its 2022 Exemplary Teaching Awards Full-time Teaching Award. Dr. Anderson is an associate professor and medical director for the Department of Humanities, Health, and Society at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.

In choosing him for the award, the Academy noted his wide-ranging involvement in medical education “as an outstanding role model and mentor, an excellent communicator, a conscientious clinician, and a skilled preceptor.” A former student describes their time with Dr. Anderson as “the perfect family medicine clerkship.” Another commented that he shows medical students “what excellence in holistic patient care looks like.”

In December 2021, Dr. Anderson also received the 2021 Full-Time Educator Award from the Florida Academy of Family Physicians.
